Gun Safety No Sales List - Now more than ever, mental health awareness is critical when it comes to gun safety. Mental health issues could affect one’s cognitive and decision-making process. This law would require mental health screening in the licensing process or as needed with due process of law remaining in place.
Many states, including Texas do not require a license to carry a gun. It’s my belief that if we are required to have a license to drive a car, which can also be a deadly weapon. We also need a license to carry a gun. Along with the fore mentioned proposals, I will propose a federal law that any person desiring to carry a gun must be properly licensed. Coupled with a “National No Gun Sales List” like the “National No Fly List”.
Gun Safety Insurance - If elected, I would advocate for a law requiring homeowner and renter insurance policies to cover guns within the policy. This measure aims to enhance gun safety in America by encouraging responsible gun ownership and reducing the risks associated with firearms.
By including guns within insurance coverage, we can incentivize gun owners to take additional precautions and secure their firearms properly. This would help minimize the potential for accidents, theft, or misuse. Just as insurance companies ask about pet ownership due to the possibility of injuries caused by animals, it is only logical to include guns within the scope of coverage to address potential risks.
Moreover, this policy would promote a culture of responsibility among gun owners. By requiring insurance coverage, we can encourage individuals to enroll in safety courses, store firearms securely, and follow proper handling procedures. This comprehensive approach would contribute to minimizing accidents and incidents related to firearms.
Financial liability is another crucial aspect to consider. If an insured gun owner were to be involved in an accident or incident involving their firearm, insurance coverage could provide financial protection for victims. This would alleviate the burden on public resources and the legal system, ensuring that those affected receive the necessary support.
While implementing this policy would require collaboration between lawmakers, insurance companies, and gun owners, it is a necessary step towards ensuring gun safety. It is important to acknowledge that this measure is not a standalone solution, but rather a part of a broader strategy. Background checks, safe storage requirements, and education programs are equally important components in promoting responsible gun ownership and reducing gun-related accidents.
Affording our community, families, and children to be protected through gun accountability, training, safety awareness not only creates responsible gun owners but also makes us a stronger and safer collective.

As a Richardson ISD employee, taxpayer and parent, I say "NO" to state taxpayer money for private school vouchers or funding! If any state provides taxpayer money to any private school, then that state is subject to lose its almost $2,000 per student in federal education dollars. Federal monies lost will be redirected to that state's public schools on top of the federal money they already receive. If a private school accepts any taxpayer money, then they will have to offer all the same services as the largest public school within 100 miles.
