The future plus our love equals our children. First and foremost, we must do whatever is in our power to keep our children safe and educated. Zachariah will draft bill proposals to be presented to create new laws or to modify existing laws to help keep our kiddos safe. Small changes lead to great advancements. As a past PTA President and now an honorary life member of the Texas Congress of Parents and Teachers, Zachariah led a community push for the International Baccalaureate (IB) program at the first Dallas ISD elementary school in the district to have this distinction. Paying our teachers fairly, building or retooling our schools to prepare our kids for their future is the key to their success.
Protecting Minority & Women Business Enterprises’ access to compete for opportunities is a top priority. Zachariah uncovered and exposed a scheme in the Capital Improvement Construction Department at Dallas Independent School District that denied M/WBEs a shot at competitively bidding on construction projects. Zachariah will continue to fight for M/WBE rights so everyone can have a fair shot at contract awards.
Safety first starts with everyone behaving in a just and equal way. Treat your neighbor the way you would want to be treated. Our citizens, the police and our first responders deserve respect. Recruiting and paying our police officers will be a priority. Making sure years of pension savings are solvent is a must. Keeping serious offenders off the streets is a non-negotiator and minor marijuana issues should not tie-up our systems costing us money.
Some cities in California have an out of control homeless population. Texas should head this issue off at the path now before it’s beyond repair. Helping the homeless help themselves will be a concept of affordable housing coupled with educating, motivating and rehabilitating. Zachariah will help by implementing or refining tools for families and individual to succeed.
